Eelgrass meadows hold sediment in place, dampen waves and currents, and provide shelter for small fish, crustaceans and young fish.
When the eelgrass is damaged, the seabed becomes less stable. Sediment is stirred up more easily. The water becomes murkier. Visibility worsens. Important habitats disappear.

PINNEVIK IS PART OF SUMMER IN LYSEKIL.
Here you'll find the beach, the rocks, the sand, the boats and the evenings by the sea.
Here, families with children, beachgoers, boaters and those coming for concerts, summer and the sea all gather.
In the same bay, beneath the surface, lie the eelgrass meadows.
They act as a nursery for species such as cod and plaice. They are also important nursery habitats for eel and whiting, among others. For young sea trout, the eelgrass meadows can provide shelter and plenty of food during their first time at sea.
The eelgrass holds sediment in place, dampens waves and currents, and helps keep the seabed stable.
It's the same bay. The same water. The same place.
As the pressure on Pinnevik increases, we need to understand what's happening beneath the surface.
Knowledge from Pinnevik can give Lysekil Municipality a better basis for how the bay can be developed with consideration for the eelgrass, the bathing area, boating and sea fishing.
WHEN THE EELGRASS DISAPPEARS, THE BAY CHANGES.

When the eelgrass meadows are damaged or disappear, the seabed becomes more unstable. Sediment is stirred up. The water becomes murkier. Visibility worsens.
The bathing experience changes. The clear water and firm seabed that many associate with Pinnevik risk changing.
Habitats for fish and other species disappear.
That's why we need to understand what's happening in Pinnevik while there's still time to act
WE ARE SURVEYING PINNEVIK ON THREE OCCASIONS.
We return to the same areas before, during and after the summer's peak pressure on the bay.
Before the most intensive period.
When the pressure is greatest.
And afterwards.
We map the extent of the eelgrass, the character of the seabed and visible traces of physical impact.
Diving, GPS positions, drone imagery, photography, film and field data are combined into a clear body of evidence from the site.
This evidence will give Lysekil Municipality better knowledge of Pinnevik and contribute to future work on the bay.

The fieldwork is compiled into maps, GPS positions, photographs, film and field data from the same areas before, during and after the summer's peak pressure.
It shows where the eelgrass is found, what the seabed looks like and where visible traces of physical impact occur.
The material is intended for use by Lysekil Municipality, boaters and boating organisations, associations, local businesses and the public.
For the municipality, it provides a clearer basis for future decisions about Pinnevik.
For boaters, it offers better knowledge of sensitive seabeds, where anchoring should be avoided and how the bay can be used with greater consideration for the life beneath the surface.
For everyone who uses Pinnevik, it gives a clearer picture of what lies beneath the surface and why the bay is worth protecting.
FROM KNOWLEDGE TO SOLUTIONS.
Once we know what Pinnevik looks like beneath the surface, we can develop solutions based on the site's real conditions.
This could involve better information within the bay, clearer consideration for sensitive seabeds, and more thoughtful use of areas where many boats gather.
It could also form the basis for future mooring buoy solutions or other ways of reducing physical impact on the eelgrass and seabed.
The goal is to create solutions that work for the life beneath the surface, the bathing area, boating, the concerts and summer in Lysekil.
BOHUSLÄN HAS ALREADY LOST A GREAT DEAL.
More than 60 percent of the eelgrass in Bohuslän has disappeared since the 1980s.
Around 12,500 hectares.
An area almost as large as Tjörn.
Pinnevik is a chance to understand, protect and act in time.
